  • Ages 18+
  • Each band consists of 4-6 adults and 1 teacher and is comprised of drums, guitar, bass, vocals, and can also include keyboards. Plugged In forms the bands based on music preference and class availability. Bands develop a set list and work as a group, all with guidance from our trained teaching staff. Band sets can include original material and/or cover songs chosen by the students. All bands will perform at an end of session concert. All skill levels welcome.

    PEACE TRACKS:  A Cross-Cultural, Collaborative Digital Music and Video Project (2021 Summer Session)

    Tuition: $400

    Ages 14-18

    Using cloud-based digital music and video editing technology, participants ages 14-18 will learn to communicate and collaborate creatively across cultures, gain knowledge of global issues and create the change they want to see in the world. This summer, over eight weeks, young people from Massachusetts and Morocco will work together (guided by teachers and facilitators) to write and produce an original song and music video that will be live-streamed on YouTube.

    Weekly asynchronous programming with additional zoom meetings

    June 28-August 20, 2021 

    Curriculum

    Week 1:  
    Band gets to know each other via the Narrative Atlas through text and video recording of themselves (facilitated by teacher and alum volunteer/asynchronous).
    Students watch Soundtrap instructional videos on their own time to learn how to use app.

    Week 2: 
    Band discusses (via text/video recording of themselves) causes/issues they want to address with a song and comes up with one topic (facilitated by teacher and alum volunteer/asynchronous).
    Students watch Soundtrap instructional videos on their own time to learn how to use app.

    Week 3: 
    Band collaboratively writes lyrics to song (facilitated by teacher and alum volunteer/asynchronous).
    Students watch Soundtrap instructional videos on their own time to learn how to use app.

    Week 4:  
    Band collaboratively creates music for song using Soundtrap (loops, etc.) (facilitated by teacher and alum volunteer/asynchronous). Feedback and ideas are shared by band members as music is recorded and shared. (facilitated by teacher and alum volunteer/asynchronous). If student has an instrument, they can use it to record their part of song.

    Week 5: 
    Teacher puts final song in format that band members use to play and record their instruments digitally on Soundtrap (facilitated by teacher and alum volunteer/asynchronous).  Band discusses and finalizes concept of music video (facilitated by teacher and alum volunteer/asynchronous).

    Week 6:
    Teacher does final mix of song.  Band collaboratively creates story board for video (facilitated by teacher and alum volunteer/asynchronous).

    Week 7:
    Each band member chooses a section of video to create (facilitated by teacher and alum volunteer/asynchronous).

    Week 8:
    Teacher does the final video edit.
    Music video is premiered and shared by students electronically/social media.
    Group discussion about project – what they learned and liked about project (facilitated by teacher and alum volunteer/asynchronous).

        Overview

        • Digital audio production class participants must register prior to their first class.
        • Ages 10-18

        Description
        In this innovative 8-week project-oriented program students will learn fundamental skills, techniques and tools to work with digital audio software. The program will culminate in a student created song or podcast project that will be showcased at the Plugged In end of session livestream concert. This is not a program adapted for online learning. Our Digital Audio Production program is geared towards and enhanced by the virtual environment.
        Expectations and Goals
        The goal of this series of classes is to provide an introduction and teach basic digital audio production skills. There is a loose curriculum these classes will follow, however the instructors will also be responsive to the needs and desires of the students and may adjust this curriculum accordingly. Each student will have a final project (song or podcast based) to present by the end of the series.

A basic understanding of digital audio production concepts such as editing, the grid, MIDI and drums, and mixing and effects will be important for participation in this series. There is a loose curriculum these classes will follow; however the instructors will also be responsive to the needs and desires of the students and may adjust this curriculum accordingly.
