Final Show: January 14-16, 2022

  • Ages 8-19
  • Each band consists of 3-6 adults and 1 teacher and is comprised of drums, guitar, bass, vocals, and can also include keyboards. Plugged In forms the bands based on music preference and class availability. Bands develop a set list and work as a group, all with guidance from our trained teaching staff. Band sets can include original material and/or cover songs chosen by the students. All bands will perform at an end of session concert.
  • All skill levels welcome.
  • Weekday and Weekend schedule options (additional detail on registration form)
  • New students don’t need to audition, but our program lead would like to learn more about the person prior to band placement to ensure the best fit possible.

Ages: Highschool aged students.

Class Days/Time: March 7, 2022 – May 6, 2022. Tuesdays (in-person at Plugged In) and Thursdays (virtual via zoom) from 7:00p-8:30p

Amped Up students will produce their own music festival, with support from Plugged In’s teaching staff, from start to finish. They will learn everything they need to know to successfully stage a live show. Whether a student’s goal is to learn how to throw a small DIY show for a single band or a large public event with many performers, the skills students pick up in this program will be helpful for just about any event.

For 8-weeks Amped Up students will work together, following a flexible curriculum, to develop the skills they need to throw a successful event. Amped Up will culminate in a youth music festival on May 7, 2022 (venue TBA) – booked with bands and youth performers curated by Amped Up students.

Curriculum – Plugged In has created a flexible 8-week curriculum that touches upon all the important skills needed to produce a successful event. A breakdown of weekly topics and tasks can be found below.

Week 1:

  • Introductions
  • Identify festival values
  • Create festival overview (number of stages, number of performers, set length, festival name, etc.)

Week 2:

  • Assign student roles (booking, social media, art direction, live sound and stage management, etc.)
  • Confirm festival values
  • Create festival name
  • Research performers and potential collaborators
  • Begin graphic design of marketing materials

Week 3:

  • Progress reports
  • Social media and marketing
  • Performer outreach

Week 4:

  • Progress reports
  • Finalize marketing materials (social media posts, fliers, community emails, etc.)
  • Finalize/book performers
  • Content push

Week 5:

  • Progress reports
  • Content push focused on featured performers
  • Begin organizing backline and live sound equipment
  • Schedule lineup of confirmed performers

Week 6:

  • Progress reports
  • Engage confirmed performers in content push
  • Performer communications (gear checks, load-in times, special set-up needs, backing tracks, etc.) 

Week 7/8:

  • Progress reports
  • Final content push
  • Create itinerary for day-of-show
  • Final check in and last-minute coordination with performers
  • Loose ends/last minute considerations

    In this innovative 8-week project-oriented program students will learn fundamental skills, techniques and tools to work with digital audio software. The program will culminate in a student created song or podcast project that will be showcased at the Plugged In end of session showcase. This is not a program adapted for online learning. Our Digital Audio Production programs are geared towards and enhanced by the virtual environment. We will explore topics such as:

    • an intro to digital music
    • audio editing & the grid
    • MIDI editing & drums
    • mixing & effects
    • creative arranging
    • and more!

    In this 8-week project-oriented program students will dive deeper intro digital audio production concepts using Reaper. An existing knowledge of basic digital audio production concepts such as editing, the grid, MIDI and drums, and mixing and effects will be important for participation in this program. Each student will have a final project (song or podcast based) that will be shared at our end of session showcase. Our digital audio production programs are geared twoards and enhanced by the virtual environment. We will explore topics such as:

    • getting to know Reaper
    • audio, comping & sampling
    • synthesis & MIDI
    • automation, routing & effects
    • and more!

    In Creative Audio Programming 1: Make Some Noise, students will learn how to create virtual instruments using the Pure Data framework. At the end of this program students will have created a unique virtual instrument they can use in any DAW like GarageBand or Logic! We will explore topics such as:

    • Filtering & Processing
    • Crafting a Synthesizer
    • Making Generative Music

    In Creative Audio Programming: Making Audio Plugins, students will learn how to make audio plugins through the JUCE C++ framework. At the end of the program, students will have made an awesome custom effect that they can use in any DAW like GarageBand or Logic to make beautiful music with! We will explore topics such as:

    • getting familiar with JUCE
    • creating basic plugins
    • processing audio input
    • digital signal processing
    • and making graphical user interfaces

Live streaming turns the entire world into your stage, making it easy to connect with audiences all over the world. The World’s Biggest Stage will teach students what platforms are best for their preferred content, how to engage their audience, how to promote their content through social media, and more!
